Shuttle racking is a high-density storage system where a battery-powered shuttle cart moves pallets along rails inside the rack channels. Forklifts only work at the front face, which cuts aisle space dramatically and boosts storage capacity by 50% or more compared to standard selective racking.
This system works best when you handle large volumes of the same SKU. You can run it as FIFO with loading on one side and retrieval on the other, or as LIFO with single-sided operation. Shuttle speed and acceleration are adjustable, and the carts handle loads from 1,000 kg to 1,500 kg per pallet.
Cold storage warehouses and food distribution centers favor shuttle racking because it minimizes door-open time and keeps operators out of the freezer. Remote control or WMS integration lets you manage multiple shuttles across deep lanes without extra labor.
